Bath salts have been making the news lately because people are using them as a drug to get high. At Monday’s Princeton City Council meeting an ordinance to amend City Code Chapter 9 entitled Offenses and Miscellaneous Provisions, Regulation of Bath Salts, was passed. This amendment makes it unlawful for any person to use, possess, distribute or deliver any substance containing MDPV, the stimulant that can cause hallucinations, paranoia, rapid heartbeat, hypertension, insomnia, nausea, breathing difficulty, agitation, and death. Any person convicted of violating this Article will be fined no less than $250 or more than $750. The city also passed ordinances to lease a copy machine and to purchase a 2012 Ford F250 pickup truck from Browning Ford in the amount of $25,320. In other business, the following bids were accepted: over 1.8 million dollars from Leander Construction, Inc., Canton, IL for the sewer rehabilitation and excess flow facility construction and over 1.7 million dollars from LA Sites Sewer and Water, Frankfort, IL for the southeast area excess flow facilities. City Manager Jeff Fiegenschuh announced that due to the upcoming Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 5th, garbage and recycling pick up would be collected on Tuesday, September 6th.
