(Pekin, IL) -- Agricultural giant Monsanto will receive tax breaks for expanding its operations in the Peoria-area. Despite some vocal critics of the deal, the Tazewell County Board approved the measure last night. Monsanto will spend 25-million dollars on two expansion projects and pay hardly any property taxes. Critics urged the board to delay the vote saying Monsanto will bring construction crews in from other areas for the project.

(Belleville, IL) -- A St. Clair County judge is giving a convicted murderer a new trial. A jury found 55-year-old Gregory Muse guilty of first-degree murder in March with Judge Michael Cook on the bench. Two months later, Cook was arrested for possessing heroin and was shown to have shared cocaine with another judge, who died from an overdose.
