People still urged to avoid area of chemical plant fire

The Euclid chemical company fire still has county officials urging people to avoid the scene and take caution if you live in the area. The Bureau County Health Departments Diana Rawlings says a shelter in place…the alternative to an evacuation notice…is still in effect for people within a one mile radius of the fire. Mark Johnson with the federal agency for toxic substances and disease registry says he doesn’t believe the fire will cause any long term health effects, although the EPA and Euclid contractors are continuning to monitor air quality. Route 40 east of Sheffield has reopened but a reduced speed limit is in place.
