Election 2010

Bureau County voters have several big decisions to make on election day. The race for Bureau County Sheriff will find closure with Incumbent Democrat John Thompson facing GOP challenger William Rosenow. Two seats on the Bureau County Board are up for grabs, with Republican Daniel Rabe opposing Democrat D. Bruce Gibson and Democrat Incumbent Richard Wilkin facing GOP challenger Robert Albrecht. A referendum is asking whether the office of county coroner should become an elected position. Voters also must decide whether to authorize the county board to issue up to $15 million in general obligation bonds to build a new jail. As part of that referendum, the board will also ask voters to levy an additional maximum tax rate of 27.5 cents for every $100 of equalized assessed value of taxable property, for the next 20 years, to pay off the principal and interest of those bonds.
