Train derailment in Tiskilwa prompts advisory evacuation
Tiskilwa residents are waiting to return home after a fiery early-morning train derailment about a mile east of the village forced them to evacuate. The 131-car Iowa Interstate Railroad train was apparently hauling ethanol, and it's believed at least 20 tankers derailed, with at least 3 exploding. The derailment and explosions happened at around 2:15 a.m. Sheriff John Thompson says the evacuation is not mandatory, but those who did evacuate went to an area friend or family's house. Evacuees also were welcomed at Princeton High School. No injuries have been reported, and some of the emergency personnel units are being released from the scene. One witness says the explosions sounded like "bombs going off." HazMat crews are letting the fire burn itself out. The cause of the train derailment has yet to be determined.
