Firefighters battle blaze in Minonk

Six buildings in downtown Minonk are a total loss after an early morning fire, but no injuries have been reported. The fire was reported at 4:14 this morning. Minonk Fire Chief John Durre says the fire likely started in a back area where four businesses are connected on North Chestnut Street. He says it could have started by a now-vacant video store. Two people did escape from upper level apartments. There's no word yet on what caused the fire. The Illinois State Fire Marshal's Office has been called to investigate. The fire drew 125 firefighters from 15 volunteer fire departments in a 30 mile radius.
