Bald Eagle Shot In Putnam County
Someone has shot a bald eagle in Putnam County. State Conservation Police say they got a call from a barge captain along the Illinois River near Hennepin that a young eagle was down. Sgt. Robert Frazier says the bird, which had a broken wing, was taken to a veterinary clinic, where X-rays revealed it had been shot in the chest. Frazier says it had about ten pellets in its chest cavity. He says authorities are not taking this lightly. The maximum penalty is a
year in prison and a $100,000 fine. Those with information on the shooting are asked to call the Illinois Target Poacher Hotline at (877) 236-7529 or Bureau-Putnam County Crime Stoppers at (815) 925-7412
