Veterans Memorial dedicated in Ohio
It was appropriate that a beautiful Veterans Memorial was dedicated in Ohio yesterday on Veterans Day. A 20 to 25 foot granite sidewalk with donor bricks leads to a tall U.S. flagpole flanked by 2-five foot tall granite slabs with 438 names of veterans who have passed away. Behind the U.S. flag are two granite benches with six shorter flagpoles flying the flags of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines. It took the Veterans Memorial Committee of
Kathy White, Kat Conner, Pam Rogers, Mary Spratt, Joyce Draper, Ton Anderson, Randy Farrell and Rick Wilkin, four years and over $50,000 to complete. The ceremony opened with the Ohio School Band playing the Star Spangled Banner and Derek Grant playing the theme songs from each of the armed services on his bagpipes. The ceremony ended with Amazing Grace played on the bagpipes, the presentation of the wreath, and Taps played by Kaitlyn Hughes and Paige Conner.
