Three teens killed, 2 injured in single-vehicle crash near Kewanee

Three Stark County teens are dead after a single-vehicle accident just outside Kewanee.  Two others were injured in the crash which happened shortly after 4 o’clock Tuesday afternoon on township road 2700E about 2 miles south of Kewanee.  Authorities say the five were traveling southbound when their Chevy Cobalt left the roadway on the opposite side and traveled through a cornfield before hitting a private drive entrance and going airborne.  The car rolled

end-over-end before coming to rest on the driver’s side in a cornfield.  At least three victims were ejected from the vehicle.  Two were pronounced dead at the scene by Henry County Coroner Dave Johnson.  Sheriff Jim Padilla says three more victims were taken to Kewanee Hospital, where one was pronounced dead soon after.  The other two were flown to St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.  Authorities have yet to release the names of the victims.  An investigation continues.
