Indiana man dies from fall at Starved Rock State Park

An Indiana man is dead after a fall from Eagle Cliff at Starved Rock State Park.  25-year old Dane Simmons of Lafayette and two companions were hiking in a restricted area at the park when, shortly after 3 Saturday afternoon, he fell about 60 feet from the cliff into the Illinois River, according to conservation police.  Ottawa River Rescue recovered Simmons from the water.  He was taken to Ottawa

Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the La Salle County Coroner’s Office.  A specific cause of death, was not immediately known.  An autopsy is pending.  Authorities don’t believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the accident.  Simmons’ two companions were taken to Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru, where they were treated and released for hypothermia
