Princeton City Council passes tax levy

princeton-sealAt a special meeting this morning, the Princeton City Council adopted an ordinance levying for over 1.6 million dollars. This was based on several conversations with the assessor’s office and a letter from the state’s attorney that “somewhat” gave an opinion on Perry Memorial Hospital’s tax status. At this time, the state’s attorney said the hospital will be taxed on 2.9 million dollars. That comes to an additional 33-thousand dollars in taxes to the

city. But City Clerk Clyde Wray recommended the taxes from the hospital be placed in an escrow account. Mayor Keith Cain had this to say about the decision.  The meeting was adjourned to the next regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 7:30 p.m.
