Clean up efforts continue after train derailment
Clean up efforts continue after tons of coal dirtied the snow in Mendota yesterday. A one hundred twenty nine car Burlington National Sante Fe freight train derailed around 1:30. 12 cars came off the tracks but police say no one was injured. Sergeant John Myers of the Mendota Police says in the past…he’s seen the coal come up first. The steady beep of a truck in reverse and the lights of bulldozers and backhos littered the night yesterday as workers shoveled the black fuel. Gina Preveda of Mendota was visiting friends who live next to tracks. She says she didn’t except them to get any sleep. 5th street at the crossing remains closed.
