Tri-County agriculture could feel state budget sting

Tri-county agriculture might feel the sting of the governor’s proposed budget, if it passes.  Soil and Water Conservation Districts across the state will lose 600- thousand dollars under Quinn’s plan.  He’s suggesting districts reduce administrative costs.  The soil and water district’s Rich Nichols says two areas are already in danger of shutting down.  Nichols says the districts rely on state money because they aren't a taxing authority and therefore can't raise taxes to generate more money.  He says the governor's proposed cuts will reduce necessary operating costs by 38 percent.
