Shoppers safe to return

The Peru Mall is back open and ready for business, says manager Phil Hileman. The mall was closed and evacuated early Tuesday afternoon due to a carbon monoxide leak. Peru Fire Captain Rick Abbott says a heat exchange unit on the roof went bad. He says maintenance shut the unit down. Abbott says doors were then opened and fans were used to get the gas out. Illinois Valley Community Hospital officials say an unknown amount of mall employees were treated and released.
