IVCC student receives national honor

A student at Illinois Valley Community College is receiving national recognition. Sophomore Caitlin Rinker has been recognized among the top 20 community college students in the nation. Over sixteen-hundred students from 800 community colleges in 48 states were nominated for the 2011 All-USA Community College Academic Team. Rinker is one of just 20 students from across the nation selected to the national team, and the first student in IVCC’s 87-year history. For the honor, Rinker receives twenty-five hundred dollars and a medallion, while IVCC picks up $15,000 in textbook scholarships from the award’s sponsor. The Ottawa High School graduate plans to attend the University of Illinois to pursue a career in dentistry or veterinary medicine. Rinker was presented the award recently at the American Association of Community Colleges Convention in New Orleans, joined by her parents and IVCC President Jerry Corcoran.
