Swearing-in at Princeton City Council
The oath of office was the first piece of business conducted at last night’s Princeton City Council meeting. City Clerk Clyde Wray swore in reelected Mayor Keith Cain and Commissioner Ray Swanson, and newly elected Joel Quiram. The council passed two resolutions; one for a temporary beer garden license to the Princeton Jaycees for Homestead Festival and the other for opposing the reduction of state collected revenues that are due to municipalities. City manager Jeff Fiegenschuh says this is shared income tax the state collects for Princeton and should be paid to Princeton. He urges all residents to call their state legislators and, as written in the resolution, demand that the General Assembly and Governor take no further action to financially ruin municipalities.
In other business, Joel Quiram asked the council members to explore Home Rule as an alternative to the present governmental status. Mayor Cain said he has no problem with this at all and asked each commissioner to provide to him at least four names of residents who could serve on an exploratory committee consisting of nine members. Quiram, Cain and Fiegenschuh would serve as non-voting members.
The meeting ended with Mayor Cain thanking the LCN employees for working and beautifying Veteran’s Park.
