Princeton Memorial Day parade is 10 a.m.
The American Legion Women Auxilliary Unit 125 holds graveside services at Oakland Cemetery beginning at 8:00. The Memorial Day parade in Princeton kicks off at 10 a.m. this morning at Nelson’s Drug Store and continues south down Main Street to Soldiers and Sailors Park. The parade will be followed by ceremonies and a program at the park. Guest speaker will be former U.S. Air Force Captain Richard Diller of Rockford. Also, today’s garbage and recyclables in Princeton will be picked up tomorrow.
La Salle Veteran’s Home residents are receiving a special visitor this Memorial Day. Democratic U-S Senator Dick Durbin is stopping by the home this afternoon at 3:15pm to meet with local veterans.
Other Area Memorial Day Events today…
8 am – Events in Ohio begin with a mass at the Immaculate Conception Church.9 am - St. Mary’s Cemetery in DePue will observe Memorial Day with Mass. All are reminded to bring lawn chairs. Coffee and rolls will be served after Mass in the Church Hall.
9:15 – American Legion services at the Cherry Miners’ Cemetery in Cherry.
10 am - Services at Village Park in Manlius.
10 am – In Wyanet, a VFW parade and services take place followed by an ice cream social at Wyanet Memorial Park.
10 am - Services in Van Orin’s Bache Chapel. The Civil Air Patrol will post the colors. There will be special music. Coffee and donuts will be provided in the fellowship hall following the service.
10 am – American Legion services at Veterans School Park in Sheffield.
10 am - The Tampico Area Historical Society will sponsor a cemetery walk in both of Tampico’s cemeteries. The walk will begin in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery with a gun salute, prayer and taps. The program will continue at the Tampico Cemetery.
10:30 - Services at Calvary Cemetery, Arlington, with blessings, scripture readings and address. There will be a display of the 32 “Honor a Veteran” American flags.
11 am - Services at Walnut Cemetery.
11 am - The Neponset American Legion will hold a program in the Neponset Community Building.
11 am – Peru holds a parade at Washington Park with a service following.
11 am – American Legion service at Ladd Cemetery in Ladd, followed by services at Ladd’s War Memorial Park at 11:30.
12:30 – American Legion services at Greenfield Cemetery in LaMoille.
2 pm – Spring Valley’s Memorial Day services at Valley Memorial Park. In addition, Spring Valley City Clerk Becky Hansen says her office is closed today and garbage pick-up will be on a one-day-later basis all week in Spring Valley.
