Avanti Foods issues voluntary recall

Walnut Cheese Company, doing business as Avanti Foods in Walnut, is voluntarily recalling mozzarella cheese products made in April.  The Illinois Department of Public Health says the products may contain beta-lactam antibiotic residues and people allergic to antibiotics may have adverse reactions.  So far, there have been no such reports.  The recall involves mozzarella cheese products with the following dates:  bulk string cheese with a pack date of April 22^nd, 8-ounce string cheese packs with sell-by date of August 20^th, and bulk shredded mozzarella with a pack date of April 25^th.  The products were sold at grocery stores, pizzerias and convenience stores across Illinois.  If you bought any, you should return them for a refund.  If you have questions regarding the recall, call Avanti Foods in Walnut at 815-379-2155.
