La Salle County residents warned of phone scam

La Salle County residents are being warned of a new scam. Apparently, people are receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be with the sheriff's department and warning them they owe restitution money. They're also threatened with arrest if they don't pay up. The caller ID may show the sheriff's department's number, but the number people are being told to call and give their credit card information to is in New Jersey. Officials with the sheriff's department say it's a scam, as they never call people for restitution and never call anyone asking for credit card numbers. If you get such a call, just hang up the phone and contact the La Salle County Sheriff's Department.
