Potentially "explosive" situation avoided in La Salle County

A potentially “explosive” situation has been avoided in La Salle County.  Sheriff Tom Templeton says a case of dynamite and eight cases of blasting caps were found Monday night at a rural residence near Ransom.  The homeowners found the explosives as they were cleaning out an old building that was being prepared for demolition.  The La Salle County Sheriff’s Department, Kane County Bomb & Arson team, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms arrived shortly and rendered the explosives safe.  Several fire departments were there, just in case, and Commonwealth Edison cut electrical service until the scene was declared safe.
