Group continues to ponder home rule status for Princeton
The Home Rule Committee is continuing to look into whether home rule status is a good idea for the city of Princeton. The ad hoc Home Rule Committee invited Mayor Scott Harl of Peru to share his experience of being a Home Rule municipality. Peru has been home ruled since 1981. Other area towns that are also Home Ruled are DePue, Standard, and LaSalle. Home Rule did not pass in Ottawa. After a long discussion concerning pros and cons of Home Rule, Harl stated that having Home Rule gives the city a chance to be pro-active instead of re-active. The committee then selected Tom Hall as their Chairman and Katie Chamberlain as Vice Chairman. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, August 2 at 5:30 p.m. at the BCR Community Room.
