Big opening day for veteran racers in DePue
It was a big day for veteran drivers on first day of the boat races at Lake DePue. George Thornhill and Ralph Donald won national titles yesterday. Thornhill, who is 71, won the C Hydro Class. Donald took his 2nd straight 175cc Hydro at the age of 80. Other racers winning national titles include John Peeters’ fourth consecutive OSY 400 Hydro class title and Sean McKean’s second straight 500cc Hydro championship. Andrew Thirlby won the 125cc Runabout finals, Will Augustine took the K-Pro class and James Nilsen won the C Service Runabout title. More national titles on the line as racing continues Saturday and Sunday at Lake DePue. WZOE-AM is broadcasting on-location from the races this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon.
