Bureau County Health Department is healthy...financially

At last night’s Bureau County Board meeting, the Health Department Assistant Administrator and Financial Director, Hector Gomez presented the 2010 Annual Report. Some of the highlights were: 600 inspections were conducted, including food establishments, wells, septic systems and tanning facilities; eighty-three immunization clinics distributed a total of 2,452 immunizations; 2,612 dental patients were seen; 3,053 women and children were served through the WIC program; and the department participated in two county-wide disaster responses, one for the Euclid Chemical fire and the other for the Magnolia tornado. Financially, the health department ended the fiscal year in the black with $373,704.
In other business, the board voted to support the Workforce Development Initiative after Pam Furlan of the Business Employment Skills Team, presented their annual report. Furlan said that so far this year, they have lost $138,600 in adult, youth, and dislocated workers programs due to budget cuts.  In closing, board chairman Dale Anderson made the following appointments: three-year terms to Ross Taylor and Andrew Kunkel as Trustees to the Seatonville Fire Protection Department, and a three-year term for Dr. Elvin Krabill to the Board of Health.
