2006 Ottawa death now ruled a murder
After 5 1/2 years, the death of an Ottawa woman is now being called a murder. The ruling was made yesterday by a La Salle County coroner's jury. In January 2006, 32-year old Tracy Cusick was found dead in a bathroom and it had been thought she'd drowned in a toilet with no foul play suspected. But the case remained open and Cusick’s body was exhumed last year. During an inquest yesterday, Ottawa detective Dave Gualandri testified that Cusick had been murdered. He said she had several injuries, including an abrasion to her forehead which came from a ring she wore. He also said there's no way someone can drown themselves, intentionally or accidentally, using a toilet. Cusick's body was found by her husband Kenneth, who had spent the night in separate sleeping quarters due to marital problems. So far, no charges have been filed and no arrests made.
