PHS students attend a conference and share their experiences
Members of Operation Snowball attended the Princeton High School Board meeting on Wednesday and spoke about the Illinois Teen Institute conference they attended this summer. Over 300 youth from across the state, adult sponsors, and ITI volunteer staff joined together at Western Illinois University in Macomb, to kick off the 38th annual conference. For five days youth and staff worked together to learn about alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention. PHS Principal Barb Schmidt reported that the Ignition experience went very well this year. The program’s goal is to connect freshmen with upperclassmen mentors who introduce them to the school culture, letting them know what to expect of their first year academically, as well as socially. Schmidt said participation was almost 100 per cent. It was announced that the following appointments were made: Linda Lawson, cafeteria worker, Carol Prince, substitute cafeteria worker, and Katie Farrell, volunteer girls golf coach. The tentative fiscal year 2012 budget was approved. The hearing is set for Wednesday, September 28th at 5:45 p.m. A proposal from Midwest Bus Sales to lease three buses this year and three next year was approved. The cost will be ten thousand dollars per bus for five years.
