The Princeton City Council awardeds several bids, but not without questions

     Advanced Asphalt and Vissering Construction Company were awarded bids at last night’s Special City Council meeting. Advanced Asphalt came in at fourteen thousand, six hundred seventy dollars for patching and resurfacing the south side of the parking lot, west of the Evangelical Covenant Church located at 24 N. Main St., Princeton. Vissering Construction Company of Streator had the lowest bid of sixteen million, nine hundred twenty-seven thousand dollars for the Phase II Water Treatment Plant Project contingent upon the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency’s approval. Commissioner Joel Quiram questioned the engineer Kevin Hannel of the Farnsworth Group who oversaw Phase I and Water Department Superintendent Michael Eggers on the size of this project. Quiram fears the project is too big for a town the size of Princeton and the residents will pay more than they need to. Quiram says even though Princeton needs a new water plant, in his opinion this is overkill. Commissioner Terry Madsen says the council is preparing for tomorrow.  When the vote was taken, all voted to approve the bid except Quiram.
