Former IVCC basketball standout killed in Florida
The investigation continues into the death of a former All-American basketball player at Illinois Valley Community College. Shannon Washington, who was attending Florida A&M, died early Sunday morning after suffering a knife wound to her neck. Police found Washington in her apartment and EMS took her to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital where she died a short time later. Police have charged 20-year old Starquineshia Palmer, who was visiting Washington for the weekend, with first-degree murder. Police allege that the two had an argument, and Palmer stabbed Washington with a kitchen knife. The 20-year old Washington was expected to become an integral part of the Florida program after transferring from IVCC, where she was named an All-American during two seasons of play.
