9-11 memorial ceremony planned in Henry

Central Park in Henry hosts an area-wide “Central Illinois 9-11 Ten Year Anniversary Memorial Ceremony this Sunday evening.  Mike Steele with the Henry Fire Protection District says the event begins with a 6pm dedication ceremony at the Henry Fire Department.  A solemn procession of emergency personnel begins at 6:15, leaving the emergency services building and traveling on Route 18 to Central Park.  The procession will be led by area honor guard units and the Celtic Cross Pipes and Drum Band from Peoria.  Once at Central Park, the ceremony will feature keynote speaker, retired NYPD officer and 9-11 responder, David Martinez.  Also expected are central Illinois dignitaries and special guests such as Senator Darin LaHood and Representative David Leitch.  The evening will include the fire department’s “last call” tolling of the bell to honor fallen comrades, followed by the playing of Amazing Grace by the Celtic Cross band.  Steele says they’ve been looking forward to the event for some months now.  Those attending are asked to bring their lawn chairs, as the entire program is expected to run about an hour.
