Day 2 of Homestead Festival
The 40th annual Homestead Festival continues today in Princeton, featuring plenty of food and entertainment at Soldiers and Sailors Park on South Main Street. The food includes the Bureau County Pork Producers serving butterfly pork chop sandwiches and pork dinners. Events include tours of the Owen Lovejoy Homestead, exhibits at the Prairie Arts Center, and an arts and crafts show on the courthouse lawn. Today's activities include a children’s fun fair, helicopter rides, a lard pie baking contest, talent showcase at the PHS auditorium, and the annual parade down Main Street, which steps off at 1:30. Listen for an on-location broadcast of the parade on WZOE-AM. WZOE will also be broadcasting on-location this morning from the Underground Railroad 5K run and Wise Guys burger-eating contest. An afternoon blues concert features "Mississippi Heat" and tonight's featured band at the Jaycees beer garden is "Rodeo Drive. Tomorrow, it's the 31st annual Homestead Festival Car show on Main Street and a barbecue ribs cook-off. Other events tomorrow include the Princeton Lions Club pancake breakfast, flea market at the fairgrounds, children's tractor pull, a worship service, music by the Generics, and a petting zoo. In addition, a reading of 2,977 names, all of those who lost their lives on 9-11, begins at 7:46 am at Veteran's Park across from City Hall. The Festival 56 theater group presents "The Guys", a play based on actual events of the 9-11 terrorist attacks in the US. The final performance of the play is at 2 Sunday afternoon at the Grace Theatre.
