Arrest made in Princeton bomb scare
An arrest has been made in relation to the bomb scare last night on the north end of Princeton. Bureau County Sheriff John Thompson confirmed McDonald's, Burger King, and Roma’s restaurants had been evacuated due to a bomb threat. People were advised to avoid the area. According to Princeton Police Chief Tom Root, at about 6:20 Wednesday evening, Culver’s received a phone call claiming a bomb was to go off at Burger King and McDonald’s in about 6 minutes. The male caller then hung up the phone. The police were called in, secured the area and evacuated Burger King, McDonald’s and Roma’s restaurants. People were directed away from the area by officers, who set up a perimeter around McDonald’s and Burger King. Bomb dogs were called in from Springfield to carefully search each building. The search turned up no explosive devices. During the investigation, police took a suspect into custody. He's 24-year old Kristofer Watson of Princeton, a Burger King employee. He was treated at Perry Memorial Hospital’s emergency room after apparently suffering a seizure in a squad car. This morning, Root said Watson was being held in the Bureau County Jail on a Class 3 felony charge for a December 10th bomb threat to Burger King. Root says, although they’re still awaiting cellphone records, there’s no doubt in his mind that Watson will be charged with last night’s bomb threat as well.
