The Bureau County Board discusses controversial issues
The Bureau County Board met last night to discuss several pieces of business, some, not without debate. County Board member Mike Kohr questioned a nearly 300-thousand dollar liability payment made in December by the Insurance Committee. He felt it was an illegal payment since the board as a whole didn’t vote to pay it. But Insurance Committee Chairman Mark Pierson said they received the bill in committee and it had already been paid. Kohr said it is still a question of process and a bill of that magnitude should be
voted on. Another discussion arose when Building and Grounds Chairperson Kristie Warren made a motion to contract with Key Builders to manage the door replacement project at the courthouse for a total approximate cost of 21-thousand dollars. After some discussion, the motion passed. In other business, the Holmes family made a complaint on the conduct of Coroner Janice Wamhoff. The Law and Assessments Committee decided to meet January 24th at 5:00 p.m. to hear further testimony. And a motion passed to give to the Illinois Department of Agriculture an advisory, non-binding recommendation for a proposed new hog facility entitled Pete Christensen Swine since they met all eight siting criteria. Zoning Officer Kris Donarski said the company is zoned for agriculture and is not in a flood plain.
