Longtime assistant Sondgeroth named new Mendota football coach
Mendota has a new varsity football coach. Long-time assistant Brock Sondgeroth has been hired to replace John McKenzie, who stepped down as head coach last month after 10 seasons at Mendota. McKenzie remains the Trojans’ Athletic Director. The 36-year old Sondgeroth has spent the past 10 years as an assistant, and has been the sophomore coach the past 7 years. Sondgeroth
has some varsity head coaching experience, as he led LaMoille’s co-op for three seasons. He has big shoes to fill, as the Trojans have had 5 straight winning seasons and state quarterfinal appearances in two of the last three years under McKenzie. Sondgeroth plans to continue his duties as boys track and field coach in the spring.
