First in a series of Home Rule meetings held
The first of three Home Rule meetings organized by a Home Rule advocacy group called Princeton Residents for Self Reliance was held Tuesday night at the Metro Center in Princeton. The group, consisting of Katie Chamberlain, Joel Quiram, Jerry Newman, and Terry Charbonneau held the meeting to explain to the public what Home Rule is and what it isn’t. After a PowerPoint presentation showing the city’s financial situation, and stressing the pros of Home Rule, the floor was opened for questions from the audience. President
of Bech Oil Company Bill Smith reacted strongly after Joel Quiram talked about using taxes on businesses to help pay for debt or new projects in place of raising utility rates. The next Home Rule meeting is Thursday, February 23 at 7 pm at the Metro Center. A Public Forum, sponsored by the Bureau County Republican newspaper, will be held on Tuesday, March 6, at 7:00 pm also at the Metro Center.
