Bureau County Board decides no action will be taken against Coroner Wamhoff

During the public comment portion of last night’s Bureau County Board meeting, members of the Holmes Family shared concerns they have in the conduct of Bureau County Coroner Janice Wamhoff.  Leslie Holmes’ body was found at the home of Wamhoff’s son, Reese.  A complaint by the Holmes Family was presented to the Law Committee in January requesting Wamhoff be removed from her position for what they called her “unprofessional conduct” and that the board adopt policies that require the coroner to recuse herself when conflicts of interest exist. After consulting State’s Attorney Patrick Hermann, the Law Committee determined the coroner is a constitutional officer and the board has no authority to discipline her.  The committee voted to recommend to the board that no action be taken against Wamhoff.  The recommendation was presented to the board at last night’s meeting.  The board voted to accept the recommendation.  The attorney for the Holmes Family said her clients were disappointed by the decision.
