Princeton Police Chief Tom Root presented the Meritorious Conduct Award to nine-year-old Jayden Smith at Monday’s Princeton City Council meeting. Smith was four years old back in 2007 when her grandfather told her to tell Grandma that he felt faint and couldn’t breathe and then proceeded to collapse to the ground. Little Jayden ran into the house, told her grandma, which resulted in a faster call to 9-1-1. Because of her quick reaction, her Grandpa, Rick Taylor, is alive and well today. The award was misplaced five years ago and just recently found. Mayor Keith Cain proclaimed Saturday, November 24, 2012 as “Small Business Saturday”. It’s intended to encourage citizens to shop small merchants on that day as a way to boost the local economy and strengthen the small business community. In other business, the Council passed a resolution to
appropriate $40,000 of Motor Fuel Tax funds for the purpose of maintaining streets and highways, by purchasing road salt. It was also announced that the City of Princeton Water Department will accept sealed bids from reputable suppliers of chemicals used in the Potable Water Supply Treatment Process. For details contact Mike Eggers, Superintendent of Water at 815-879-8066. And due to the upcoming Veterans’ Day holiday on Monday, November 12th, garbage and recycling will be collected on Tuesday, November 13th. Garbage and recycling must be set out by 5:00 AM.
