School Considers Arming Guards
(Washington, IL) -- Washington Community High School administrators may soon be armed. School officials want to make three administrators part-time police officers. That would give them the right to carry a gun on campus. They'd receive the same firearm training as police officers, and would only be allowed to carry their guns on school property. School officials started discussing the idea after the Sandy Hook school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.
State Officials Urge People To Stay Away From Hospitals
(Springfield, IL) -- More than two dozen people have died of the flu in Illinois this year, and now state officials are urging people to stay away from the hospital if they don't have to be there. Public Health Director LaMar Hasbrouck says about 370 infected people have flooded emergency rooms with the flu. Twenty seven have died. He urges anyone under 18 to stay away from hospitals so they aren't exposed to the virus. He also says people should get a flu shot, which will either prevent them from getting the flu or it will reduce the severity of the symptoms if they do get it.
State Officials Warn Seniors About A Scam
(Springfield, IL) -- State officials are warning seniors about a scam. An unidentified man is calling senior citizens and posing as someone from their bank. He then asks for information about their bank accounts and tells them someone has stolen money from them. The man then tells the
seniors he'll catch the thief if the senior pays him a fee. So far, the man has made off with about seven grand from two seniors in Springfield.
Man Arrested After School Threat
(St. Joseph, IL) -- A Central Illinois man is behind bars after allegedly threatening to carry out a school shooting. Deputies at the Champaign County Sheriff's Department apparently overheard Uriah Fosdick talking about the shooting over the weekend. He was allegedly planning an attack on the St. Joseph-Ogden School District. The police department put the district on warning and put Fosdick's house under surveillance. He was taken into custody yesterday and is being held on a 750-thousand dollar bond.
Man Preys On Youth At High School
(Rockford, IL) -- A 49-year old Rockford man says Justin Beiber sent him a brainwave, telling him to go to a high school and prey on young boys. Lawrence Adamczyk was arrested Saturday morning during a boys swim meet at Riverside Brookfield High School. School security confronted him when he was roaming the halls, then contacted authorities. Adamczyk allegedly told police he was going to go to the zoo first, but then he received the Beiber brain message, and went to the school. Adamcyzk has been arrested several times and has several sex crimes on his record.
