LaSalle County bat shows presence of deadly infection

LaSalle County is one of 4 counties in Illinois where a disease that has devastated the bat population across the country has been found. The fungal disease called white-nose syndrome has been found in bats in a nature preserve west of Utica.  Joe Kath with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources says the fungal disease will likely kill some of the bats.  Kath says the area could experience a pesky problem next summer if too many bats are killed.  He says there'll be more insects and bugs during the hot weather.  Biologists think one way the bats may get the disease is from humans visiting their hibernation sites.  The disease doesn't make people sick.
