Explosion warning issued for 2011 Tiskilwa derailment site

An explosion warning has been issued now for the site of an ethanol train derailment in Tiskilwa that happened nearly a year and a half ago.  In the notice sent to Tiskilwa residents living near the site, the Illinois EPA says ethanol and methane in the derailment site groundwater could produce methane gas.  That gas could explode if it’s ignited by digging or underground work.  The hazard is in a 3-acre area of farmland along the tracks.  An Iowa Interstate Railroad train derailed in the early morning hours of October 7th, 2011.  Several of the cars hauling ethanol spilled and caught fire, prompting an evacuation of the village.
