Durbin: Violent Criminals Not Allowed Path To Citizenship
(Chicago, IL) -- Illinois Senator Dick Durbin is adamant that undocumented immigrants with a violent history will not be allowed a path to citizenship. Speaking to meeting of Polish and Ukranian-Americans yesterday in Chicago, Durbin said any immigration reform bill will not allow dangerous criminals to file become citizens. Presented with objections and questioned about possible oversights, Durbin said no bill could anticipate every case and that he understood the concerns raised about immigration reform.
Crash In Grundy County
(Seneca, IL) -- Police in Grundy County say a wrong-way driver on Interstate 80 caused a crash that killed a Bridgeview man early yesterday. Grundy County Coroner John Callahan says Abed Bader was dead at the scene of the crash around 12:45 a.m., and an autopsy will be performed. Bader's car was hit by an unidentified man driving a minivan west in the eastbound lanes of I-80, after which a tractor-trailer struck Bader's car a second time. The driver of the minivan was hospitalized with serious injuries, but the tractor-trailer driver was unhurt.
Man To Run Iditarod
(Willow, AK) -- An Addison man will participate in this year's Iditarod sled dog race in Alaska. Charley Bejna owns a landscaping business in Addison, and, according to his website, has been following the Iditarod
since the 1990's, and entered his first dog sled race in 2011. The one-thousand mile cross-country race from Willow to Nome kicks off at 2 p.m. Alaska time today.
Served With Illinois Cease-And-Desist Order
(Springfield, IL) -- Popular mobile payment company Square has run afoul of a state law and has been ordered to cease operations in Illinois. The California company has been told to cease and desist by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation for not having a proper license to operate within the state. Square issued a statement saying they are working closely with the state to address their concerns. The company has not, as yet, ceased operations.
