McMichael Refuses Romeoville Debate
Romeoville mayoral candidate Steve McMichael says he will not debate current Mayor John Noak before the April 9th election. The former Chicago Bear says he doesn't want to give Noak the media exposure that would come from having a highly-publicized debate. McMichael received the endorsement of former Bears coach Mike Ditka during a Friday fundraiser in Chicago.
Illinois Exports Down
The latest numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau shows Illinois exports are falling, and the culprit seem to be last year's drought and its associated effects. Monthly export numbers from July of last year to January of this year show that there was little change or a drop in goods shipments from the prior year. Analysts are blaming last year's drought, saying a drop in farm goods and low water levels on the Mississippi River hurt overseas shipment of crops. Shipments of Illinois corn dropped more than 30-percent last year.
Tax Break For Cars Bought In Illinois Could End
A tax break for Missouri residents who buy cars in Illinois could be coming to an end. Lawmakers in Missouri are pushing a bill that would reinstate local sales taxes on vehicles bought in other states. According to the bill's sponsor, Missouri has lost 43-million dollars in sales taxes from
out-of-state sales. A typical St. Louis-area resident can currently save up to four-percent of the total price of a new car by buying in Illinois.
Lottery winners claim prize just in time
The Illinois Lottery says the winners of a $1 million prize that had gone unclaimed for nearly a year have come forward - and just in the nick of time. Lottery Superintendent Michael Jones says an attorney for the three Chicago-area winners claimed the prize Thursday. The ticket would have expired today. Jones says the winning $1 million St. Patrick's Day Millionaire Raffle ticket was sold last year in Wood Dale. He says the three winners are all related.
