Peoria School District Sues Dunlap Schools
(Peoria, IL) -- A dispute between two Central Illinois School Districts is heating up. The Peoria School District is suing the Dunlap School District over 125-thousand dollars it claims Dunlap shouldn't have received. PSD Attorney Stan Eisenhammer says the Peoria County Clerk made a coding error between 2002 and 2008 and mistakenly paid property taxes to the wrong district. Eisenhammer says the PSD has made several attempts to collect the cash but Dunlap officials refuse to cooperate.
Medical Workers Could Be Required To Wear ID Badges
(Springfield, IL) -- All healthcare workers across the state could soon be required to wear ID Badges. State Rep Lawrence Walsh is behind a proposal. He says someone in his district had a scare when they took their mother to the doctor and an unidentified worker whisked her away. Right now, all employees at state licensed hospitals and doctor's office are required to wear ID badges, but workers at unlicensed facilities are not.
Funeral Service Set For Marine Killed In Training Exercise
(Highland, IL) -- A Marine from Highland is being laid to rest. Corporal Aaron Ripperda was killed in an explosion last week during a training exercise in Nevada. A visitation will be held next Tuesday at the Meredith
Funeral Home in Highland from 3:00p.m. until 8:00p.m. The funeral is next Wednesday at 10:00a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland.
Two Dead After Tanker Accident
(Willisville, IL) -- At least one person is dead after a crash between a coal truck and a propane tanker. Police say the tanker exploded on impact. It happened yesterday just after 2:00p.m. on County Line Road just north of Willisville. Police are investigating to determine what caused the accident.
Woman Charged After Stealing From Church Concessions Stand
(Affton, IL) -- An Affton woman is accused of stealing more than 800-bucks from her church. Officials say Stacy Funke took the cash from Seven Holy Founders Catholic Church last December after working a concessions stand during a basketball tournament. She allegedly used the money to pay her personal expenses. She's reportedly admitted to the crime and is being held on a 75-hundred dollar bail.
Enyart: Closing Two IL Control Towers 'Devastating'
(Undated) -- Illinois Congressman Bill Enyart says closing two airport control towers in this state will spell trouble. Enyart said the planned closure of two towers in southern Illinois will mean job losses and will have a devastating effect on airport safety. The F-A-A has suggested the closure of the tower at Southern Illinois Airport while other officials predict the tower at Williamson County Regional Airport will close later this year.
IL Beer Industry Foaming With Prosperity
(Undated) -- A cold glass of suds might be a favorite beverage for many Illinoisans but the state's beer industry is a financial favorite too. A new impact study into the Illinois beer industry says it's the source of billions of dollars in economic impact. The study finds the beer industry brings in more than ten-billion dollars to Illinois' annual economy and is linked to nearly 90-thousand jobs in this state.
IL Earns 'A-Minus' For Spending Transparency
(Chicago, IL) -- A new report about transparency in government spending is awarding Illinois high marks. The annual rankings say Illinois earned an A-minus and joins several states for the best spending transparency. In the previous study Illinois received a B-minus.
Trooper Helps Lift Car Off Student
(Champaign, IL) -- An Illinois Trooper is being called a hero today after he helped lift a car off a college student during Monday's snowstorm. Authorities say with the help of two other people, 300-pound State Trooper Brain Scott - who is himself a former football player at the University of Illinois - lifted a car that had rested on U-of-I student Ethan Asofsky along Interstate 57. Asofsky was treated at a Champaign hospital where he was listed in fair condition yesterday.
