Quinn Has Meeting Scheduled In Mexico
Illinois Governor Pat Quinn is making a run for the border. A Quinn spokesperson says the Governor is visiting Mexico next week for trade discussions. Quinn's scheduled to meet with the mayor of Mexico City and other officials.
Labor Deal Reached At UI
A campus labor union has reached a tentative agreement with the University of Illinois. Details aren't being released, but members of the union will vote on the deal next Thursday and Friday. Negotiations have been going on since last June and resulted in a three-day strike earlier this month.
Peoria man receives $95,000 for "mistreatment" at Tazewell County JailA Peoria man is getting a $95,000 out-of-court settlement after he said he was mistreated at the Tazewell County Jail. Everett Lewis claimed he was abused by officers and denied medical treatment. County officials say the
claims had no merit, but a settlement was cheaper than legal fees to take the case to trial.
Attorney General Attempts To Pin MMA Promoter
Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan says the promoter of a Mixed Martial Arts exhibition dealt some Springfield residents a low blow. The AG's office is filing suit against John Dickerson of Virginia, accusing him of scamming Springfield businesses and residents into buying sponsorships and tickets for two MMA events that were then canceled. They say Dickerson refused to give refunds to ticket holders or sponsors after they found that no such events had actually been planned.
