Rivermen Leaving Peoria
The Peoria Rivermen will be skating off into the sunset at the end of this season. The NHL's St. Louis Blues have notified the Peoria Civic Center they are moving the team out of central Illinois. The Blues have two more seasons left on their lease and will pay a 90-thousand-dollar penalty to the building to opt out early.
Quinn Takes Clemency Action
Governor Pat Quinn granted 87 clemency petitions yesterday. But he denied 135 others. His action comes as he deals with a backlog of more than 25-hundred cases from the previous administration. The 222 clemency petitions acted upon are part of dockets ranging from 2005 to 2012.
Bill Would Allow Psychologists To Prescribe Medication
A measure that would allow psychologists to prescribe medication is expected to get a vote in the full state Senate next month. The measure would mean psychologists would be able to prescribe drugs for treating
mental, emotional and psychological illnesses. The bill was given an okay earlier by a state Senate panel.
Peoria Homeless Population On The Rise
(Peoria, IL) -- The number of homeless people in the Peoria area is on the rise. WMBD TV reports a count in Peoria, Tazewell, Woodford and Fulton counties shows 568 adults and children did not have a home. That's about 200 more than last year. Dream Center Shelter Director Kristy Schofield says more affordable housing is needed.
