The fallout continues from the flooding of the past couple of days. The rising flood waters of the Illinois River has forced several communities along it’s banks to evacuate homes and businesses, and motorists are still being cautioned to avoid flooded roadways as homeowners throughout the area continuing clearing water out of their basements. Governor Quinn has declared Bureau, LaSalle, Marshall and Putnam counties as state disaster areas. The disaster declaration, which Quinn also bestowed on 34 other counties, expands access to state emergency resources and allows the state to formally pursue federal relief and support. Flash flooding and rapidly rising rivers and streams have forced evacuations, damaged or destroyed homes and businesses, caused power outages and closed numerous roads. Quinn urged all Illinoisans to stay off the roads if possible. A shelter for those evacuated has been set up at Illinois Valley Community College in Oglesby.
