The levy in Marseilles has been breached by the Illinois River and there are several areas of the city underwater. Illinois Valley Cellular is headquartered in Marseilles. J.C. Heerdt with IV Cellular says, despite some Facebook rumors to the contrary, their service is still up and running. He’s says they’re on backup power and they’ve gotten clearance from the city, the police department and first responders to get staff into the building so they can keep the backup generators going. Meanwhile, the City of Peru announces that, due to the flooding, the city’s lawn bag pickup and chipping service is suspended until further notice. The City of Mendota will be providing dumpsters for residents affected by the flood. There will be two locations starting as soon as the receptacles become available. They will be located at the Mendota Swimming Pool Lot and at the base of the downtown water tower at 601 8th Street. Only flood affected items will be accepted. Appliances and electronics will NOT be accepted. If you do need to get rid of a flood-affected appliance, Buckman Recycling, located at the intersection of Main and 5th Streets, will accept any appliance.
