State charges have been dropped against ousted Dixon comptroller Rita Crundwell. She had been charged with 60 counts of theft in Lee County, but State's Attorney Anna Sacco-Miller says the cost of prosecuting Crundwell wouldn't be justified since it's unlikely she would be given additional prison time. Crundwell was sentenced earlier this year to 19 years, 7 months in prison after pleading guilty to federal charges of stealing more than $54 million over two decades from the City of Dixon. She used the money to pay for a lavish lifestyle and her horse-breeding operation. Crundwell was not in court for yesterday’s hearing.
