A stretch of Interstate 80 is closed as the cleanup continues from a chemical spill from a tanker truck that rolled into a ditch. Illinois State Police Trooper Jason Wilson says just before 6 this morning, a semi-truck tanker combination was traveling in the westbound lane of Interstate 80 near Mile Marker 29. A witness says the truck was traveling in the left lane, crossed into the right lane, continued through the right shoulder and rolled in the north ditch. The driver was taken to Hammond Henry Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. HazMat teams were called in to clean up a small chemical spill from the tanker. Wilson says although there’s no immediate public health risk, I-80 is shut down between Atkinson and Annawan as the cleanup continues. Traffic is being diverted to Route 6. The shutdown of I-80 was expected to continue through most of today.
