A longtime area service is ending. Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton is closing its OB Department, effective January 1, 2014. Perry CEO Rex Conger says the hospital will be shutting down their Women’s Healthcare Unit. He says it wasn’t an easy decision. Conger says the hospital anticipates at least $1.1 million less in Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement during their current fiscal year. He also says fewer people in the area are having babies. There were fewer than 100 deliveries last year and half of those used Medicaid as payment. Conger says the hospital will do all it can to help its staff through the process. Conger adds the hospital will have the capability to deliver a baby in the ER if necessary. He also says the hospital’s goal remains the same. Conger says the hospital is looking into adding some new services that could provide additional volume and revenue.
