State Proposes 35B Spending Plan
Illinois Democrats are proposing a 35-billion-dollar state spending plan. The proposed budget will include pay raises for state workers and cut some programs for seniors. Lawmakers have been able to agree on a budget thanks to exceeded expectations for state income-tax collections last month.
Another State Rep To Support Gay Marriage
The momentum for gay marriage seems to be growing in Illinois. Another state representative has announced his support for the deal. LaShawn Ford says he had a change of heart after considering gay marriage as a moral issue that could advance opportunities in the state. The news
comes just days before the House is expected to wrap up for the year. A floor vote is expected this Friday.
Quinn Eager To Sign Medicaid Expansion
Governor Quinn says he'll sign a bill that extends healthcare to more than 340-thousand uninsured people. He says expanding the Medicaid program will improve the health of the people in Illinois and create thousands of good jobs in the healthcare field. The expansion is part of the state's efforts to take advantage of President Obama's Affordable Care Act. The federal government will cover the full costs of the expansion for the first three years.
Liability Insurance Coverage Going Up
Drivers might soon be out of a bit more cash to pay for liability auto insurance. That's because lawmakers want to increase the minimum required coverage for bodily harm and death to 25-thousand dollars. The property coverage would also be increased to 20-thousand dollars if Governor Quinn signs the bill that's on his desk. State Rep Laura Fine says current liability levels are outdated and don't keep pace with rising medical costs. She says drivers could spend an extra 75 bucks a year for the increased coverage.
