Six Bureau County residents have been indicted by a grand jury on charges of conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine over the past two years. Those arrested are 32-year old Max Moritz, 29-year old Nicholas Hand, 27-year old Shane Walters, 26-year old Nikole Walters, 23-year old Kyle Dye and 23-year old Jenna Regal. They are all of Princeton and the rural surrounding area. Bureau County Sheriff John Thompson and Princeton Police Chief Tom Root were joined by officials from the FBI, DEA, Illinois Attorney General’s Office and the U.S. Attorney for the Central District of Illinois at a press conference at the Bureau County Jail. Members of the Tri-Dent Task Force worked cooperatively with federal and state agencies to investigate the case, which is being prosecuted in federal court. Sheriff Thompson says the two-year investigation was a cooperative effort that began locally. The grand jury returned the indictment last week, but the indictment remained sealed pending Tuesday’s arrests, except for Regal who is hospitalized for childbirth. Those arrested are accused of conspiring together, and with others, over a two-year period, and involving more than 500 grams of methamphetamine. The federal charges are felonies. The penalty carries a statutory mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years to life in prison.
